ARE YOU LISTENING?
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
O Lord my God, my Holy One, you who are eternal— surely you do not plan to wipe us out? O Lord, our Rock, you have sent these Babylonians to correct us, to punish us for our many sins. But you are pure and cannot stand the sight of evil. Will you wink at their treachery? Should you be silent while the wicked swallow up people more righteous than they?
Habakkuk 1:12-13 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever had those moments when you wondered if God was going to step in and help the righteous against the wicked? Maybe someone mistreated you, lied about you, or stabbed you in the back. Maybe someone you thought was a friend chose to break your confidence and slander your name. Perhaps injustice seems to be rampant.
The prophet Habakkuk took his complaints to the Lord. He said to God, “Should you be silent while the wicked swallow up people more righteous than they?”
Then Habakkuk did something very important. You must go to the next chapter to see what he did. This is what is recorded in Habakkuk, chapter two beginning in verse 1.
“I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guard post. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how he will answer my complaint. Then the Lord said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.”
Habakkuk 2:1-3 NLT
Habakkuk chose to get away from the normal daily routine of life and find a place to listen to the voice of God. Instead of sitting in his anger and frustration he took his complaint to God and then sat down and listened.
There is great healing and revelation found by those who are willing to separate themselves from the routine of life and listen to the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit. I am convinced the Spirit speaks a lot more than we listen. We need to allow our mind to become quite so that we can hear from God.
Take a few moments today to listen to what God may be saying to you.
