SERVING OTHERS
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Ephesians 2:10 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
God has “good things” planned for us to do!
We were not saved just so that we could go to heaven and escape hell. If that was the case, Jesus could just take us directly to heaven the moment we confess Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
When God’s grace is poured into our lives and brings forgiveness and freedom we are immediately equipped with gifts, talents, and abilities that God expects us to use to serve others. God has a unique place for us to serve in His kingdom. Our place of service will not only be a blessing to others but we will be blessed as well.
True fulfillment in life is not in being served but in serving. When we begin to realize we have been called and gifted by God to serve in His kingdom something is ignited inside of us. We are given a purpose which opens the door to fulfillment and satisfaction.
Accumulation of stuff, trophies, titles, or power will never replace the satisfaction of knowing you are making a difference in someone else’s life. You and I were created by God to serve, not to be served. We are followers of Jesus and He modeled this for us. Jesus declared, “The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve” (Matthew 20:28).
If Jesus came to model serving, then if we are following Jesus we will be serving. This service will look different for every person because we have different gifts, talents, and abilities. I am not called or gifted to serve as a worship leader. I love worship but I’m not gifted with the musical skills necessary to accomplish that task.
What gifts, talents, and abilities has God placed in your life? How are you using those to serve others?
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit please show me the gifts, talents, and abilities You have placed in me. Show me how to use those for Your kingdom by serving others.
