“GOD WITH US”

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet: “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’”

Matthew 1:22-23 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

As Christmas approaches, I’ve noticed the parking lots at malls are filling up. I’m told the online shopping sites are buzzing. People are getting more frantic trying to purchase that perfect gift. Life seems to speed up between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Often it becomes a blur of activity that makes us numb. That’s why it is so important to pause and remember that Jesus came to earth to be “God with us.” The birth of Jesus was God wrapping Himself in human flesh and being born in a rather obscure village in a part of the world in great tumult. The parents were a carpenter and a young girl from very humble beginnings. Jesus came to show us that God wants to be with each of us. He is not just interested in the successful and well-known. God wants to work in and through everyone. Jesus wants to be with us every hour of every day. Jesus promised His followers He would never leave them or forsake them. He promised the Holy Spirit would come to live in them and guide them. God is with us today if we will listen to Him and open our hearts to His presence. Our God is not a distant force controlling the universe. He is present with each of us. He is God with us!

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit please remind me today that You are present with me. Help me to lean into Your presence.

God is with me—I want to be constantly reminded that God wants to be a part of my everyday life. I need to invite Him in regularly and lean on His wisdom.
