THE WORD BECAME FLESH
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.
John 1:14 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
God became flesh and "made his home among us!" The original language would be properly translated that God "tabernacled among us."
As the Spirit inspired John to write these words I believe he was looking back to the Old Testament book of Exodus. John was recalling when God gave Moses a blueprint for the construction of a Tabernacle in the wilderness. The children of Israel had just walked out of four hundred years of Egyptian slavery and were headed to the Promise Land. God gave Moses the design for a structure that would be a physical representation of the presence of God with them.
When the Tabernacle was complete, we read that the glory of God filled that place. The people were in awe of the glory of God. They were afraid to get too close to God's glory.
With time the Tabernacle was replaced with a Temple in Jerusalem built on the same basic design. When Solomon completed the Temple the glory of God filled the Temple in such a unique presence of God that the priests fell to the ground in reverence and fear.
Because of Israel's rebellion and idolatry, the glory of God departed from the Temple. There were at least four hundred years of silence from heaven. Then God came to earth wrapped in human flesh. The glory of God returned not to dwell in a tabernacle or Temple but in human flesh.
Now, as followers of Christ, we have the glory of God dwelling in us. We have become the "temple of God." God's Spirit dwells in us. God is living and walking with us.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit please help me to be more aware of the glory of God in my life. Help me to see what You want to do in and through me. Help me to open my spiritual eyes to Your will and Your work.
