DIFFERENT
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
When it was time to leave, they returned to their own country by another route, for God had warned them in a dream not to return to Herod.
Matthew 2:12 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
When we read the story of the visit of the Magi, we sometimes forget this little part of the story. When they left from their visit with Jesus they returned “by another route.” Another translation says they went home a different way. There is a lot we don’t know about the Magi. The Bible is unclear about exactly from where they came. We don’t even know what happened to them after they encountered Jesus. There has always been speculation about how they learned the Jewish prophecies of a star signaling the birth of a king. I personally think after their visit they were transformed and told everyone of the birth of the Messiah, King, and Savior. What we do know is that left different than when they came. It is impossible to encounter Jesus and not be different. One encounter with the grace and mercy of Jesus and our lives are changed. The way we think changes. Priorities are changed. Attitudes change. The good news is we don’t have to spend a lot of money to travel through dessert and over mountains to find Jesus. We can find Jesus right where we are. We can open our hearts and invite Him to be our Savior and Lord wherever we are. Christmas is a great time to find Jesus fresh and new.
