RESTORE THE “FIZZ”

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

John 10:10 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

One evening as we were hosting our small group in our home, one of our guests informed us that our Cokes were flat. Neither Cindy nor I drink this, but we purchased them for our guest that would come over. We usually bought the Cokes in a large pack of cans. We did not realize that Cokes have an expiration date on them. Our guest that evening immediately knew it was an old Coke because it had little fizz.

I have discovered it is possible to lose our “fizz” in our relationship with God. We just go through the routines of religion and without realizing it. One day we wake up and the “fizz” is gone. Our passion has dried up.

Stovall Weems wrote, “Passionate Christianity should be the norm for every believer—not the exception!” (From “Awakening: A New Approach to Faith, Fasting, and Spiritual Freedom.” Page 2)

I believe we should decide that we will not settle for a stale, mundane, dull, boring relationship with God. Part of our commitment to prayer and fasting during this period is to check up to be sure the “fizz” hasn’t left our spiritual life.

In our text today Jesus promised to give us “a rich and satisfying life.” In the NIV the wording is, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

There should be a fullness in our spiritual lives that grows every day. When we choose actively to feed our spirit man, we can discover new life.

This is why it is important as you spend time in prayer during this time you also take time to journal about what God is saying to you. Even if you don’t think He is talking take a few minutes to write what is happening in your life and what you are believing God to do in and through you.

I have found when I journal that as I am writing the new thoughts that hit my mind and spirit. I have written things down and realized those were God thoughts not my thoughts. As you read what you have written during these twenty-one days, I believe there will be new clarity and purpose in your life. I believe the Holy Spirit will speak to you and release new “fizz” inside of you.

Discovering the purpose of God for our lives is an incredible way to restore the “fizz.” We can get up in the morning with purpose and energy because we are working for a purpose.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit show me the life You want to release in and through me. Help me to have a new sense of clarity and purpose. Help me to lean into Your voice.
