A SECRET PLACE

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Early the next morning Jesus went out to an isolated place. The crowds searched everywhere for him, and when they finally found him, they begged him not to leave them.

Luke 4:42 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Years ago, I heard a man teach on the power of the secret place. He challenged me that day to always have in my life a secret place that was away from the noise and clutter of my world.

Jesus, the Son of God, found it necessary to find a secret place. He knew the people would distract Him from His mission if He didn’t stay connected with the Father’s will by spending time in a secret place.

In the Old Testament we see that Moses heard the voice of God when he was on the back side of the dessert. Out in the wilderness with sheep allowed Moses to hear from God.

David grew up as a shepherd boy. Many of the psalms in our Bible were written on those nights alone in the fields with his sheep. I believe those times alone with God gave David a foundation for his future leadership. He won the battles in the secret place that were manifested in the public place.

Jesus began His ministry with forty days of prayer and fasting in the wilderness. In that wilderness experience Jesus had intimate communion with Father God and was laying the foundation for His years of ministry.

After the forty days Jesus still practiced finding a secret place on a regular basis. He needed regular times to connect with the Father.

I believe we need a regular place and time where we connect with the Father. We need a place where we read the Word, journal, pray, read, and worship. Through the seasons of life that place will change but we must have a place where we disconnect from the world so we can connect with the Father.

Your battles will be won or lost in the secret place!

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit help me to find that secret place to connect with You. Help me to lean into Your presence each day.

I am reminded of an old hymn, “Shut in with God in the secret place. There in the Spirit beholding His face. Gaining new power to run in the race. I love to be shut in with God.”
