BE LIKE THOSE WHO ARE WISE
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.
Ephesians 5:15-17 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
What does it look like to live “like those who are wise?”
Sometimes we read biographies of successful people to discover the secret sauce of their success. We might watch a movie or documentary about their lives to learn the secret of their success.
Paul gives us a pretty good insight into what he calls living like those who are wise. He says we need to “make the most of every opportunity” and “understand what the Lord wants you to do.”
I am convinced that currently we waste a lot of opportunities. There are so many things that distract us—entertainment, social media, video games, sports, and more. It seems we often blow hours a day on worthless things and miss a lot of opportunities.
I listened to a man the other day who realized he had a 45-minute commute to work each day and decided to make that an opportunity for growth. He purchased a language learning kit and in less than a year listened to all the compact disks(CDs) three times and taught himself a new language. All he did was take the time he was wasting listening to music or talk radio and use it for growth. That choice opened new doors in his life.
The second part of the formula is to “understand what the Lord wants you to do.” Where do you need greater clarity about what God wants you to do? The answer for clarity is found in spending time with Father God.
I believe we get clarity when we commit to God’s Word (daily reading and interacting with the Word of God), God’s Spirit (daily time in prayer), and God’s family (connect with other believers in meaningful relationships that motivate us to grow).
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit please help me to make the most of the opportunities You are giving me. Help me to see what You have put in front of me. Help me to discipline myself to have a daily time of listening to You.
“Scroll down to share what you feel God is saying based on today’s reading.”
I want to be more aware of the opportunities I have and make the most of each opportunity.
I want to make a prayer room/closet. I want to feel closer to you God. I know the things that I do that are displeasing and I want to work on those things as well.
