STAY AWAY FROM THE BEES

TODAY’S THOUGHT
If you want to avoid getting stung by bees the best thing to do is stay away from the bees!
This is the strategy Paul is giving to his spiritual son. He tells him, and us, to “run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts.” The Bible talks to us about fighting the enemy, but we are never told to fight lust. The Biblical plan for dealing with lust is to run from it.
You can’t stop a behavior by focusing on the behavior. I have worked with people for years and found a common thread, whatever you focus on is what you become.
I’ve had lots of people say, “I’m never going to be like my parent.” They focused so much on the negative behavior of their parent they became just like their parent.
We never conquer a bad behavior by focusing on that behavior. We conquer by replacing. Instead of saying, “I’m not going to lie,” declare, “I am a truthful person. I always tell the truth.”
This is what Paul tells Timothy. He tells him to pursue the good things and by doing so you avoid the bad things. And to be victorious pursuing the good things get some other people in your life who are pursuing the same things.
There is also the need to check on friends. Are they pursuing God, righteousness, and truth? If they are not, I need to walk away from those friends. I need people in my life that will inspire me to right living. People who inspire me to be the best version of myself.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit please help me today to run away from relationships and activities that draw me away from You. Help me to have godly friends that promote righteous living.
