A NEW GRIP

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees. Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong.

Hebrews 12:12-13 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

The writer has given some strong instructions about living the life of faith and now encourages us to “strengthen your weak knees.” Perhaps he was remembering the words of the prophet Isaiah who had written years earlier, “Encourage the exhausted, and strengthen the feeble” (Isaiah 35:3). As followers of Christ we have the responsibility to strengthen ourselves and others. The journey will have unexpected twist and turns, and we must be prepared. We must be sure we are walking a clear path so that others can follow. Life is tough. Following Jesus always has some surprises. Jesus promised us that in this life we would have problems. Why do we think it should be easy? We live in a fallen world with a fallen humanity. People have a corrupted sin nature and as such will be unfair, unloving, and downright nasty at times. But, as followers of Christ we have a mandate to remain consistent in our love for God and His creation. How do we strengthen our weak knees? I believe it is getting back to the basics on a regular basis. We must spend time in God’s Word, in prayer, and in fellowship with other believers. These are the three building blocks of faith. We can’t be strong if we aren’t in the Word of God. His Word is the main builder of our faith. We can’t stay on the right path if we aren’t checking in with our commander daily. It is easy to wander off track. That is also why we need other believers in our lives who can speak truth to us.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit please help me today to be consistent in Your Word, in prayer, and in community with other believers. Help me to daily strengthen my life.
