THE CONSEQUENCES OF TRUSTING GOD
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
O God, have mercy on me, for people are hounding me. My foes attack me all day long. I am constantly hounded by those who slander me, and many are boldly attacking me. But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?
Psalms 56:1-4 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
David writes this song as he is under attack from the Philistines. The words could be repeated by many Bible characters and modern-day followers of Christ.
Many have wondered why injustice occurs. Why God allows someone to hurt us, slander us, and attack our integrity? Why does God allow someone to walk out on their marriage? Why does God allow our children to make such foolish decisions? Why does God allow our boss to be such a jerk? Why do we have to suffer with this physical problem? Why are we so financially strapped?
Our choice must be the same as David’s, “When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You....I trust in God.”
Trusting in God is always a faith decision. We have no evidence at this moment that God is going to correct the wrong, heal the sickness, provide the funds, or remove the problem. By faith we choose to trust in God.
Trusting in God has amazing consequences. Trusting in God allows us to rest in His peace. It moves us to a whole new level.
Recently I met with one of the men who help me to stay focused on the right things. When he greeted me, he realized my positive mood and assumed my physical pain must be a lot better. When he asked, I had to tell him it was not. My pain level was high, but I had decided to lean more into God. God had corrected my attitude without changing my problem.
Sometimes God changes the problem, sometimes God changes the person.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit I want Your will in my life. I want to see Your Kingdom lived out in every circumstance of my life. I ask today that You would help me to trust You completely with every part of my life.
