A NEW LEVEL OF SENSITIVITY
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.
Galatians 5:1 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Because I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, I have been set free from the control and consequences of sin. Before the coming of Jesus to earth people lived under an Old Covenant that taught you had “to do in order to become.” You had to obey certain laws to become righteous before God.
In the New Covenant instituted by Jesus we learn we “already are,” therefore we need to act like it. We are free from the control and consequences of sin. God’s grace has removed the debt of sin on my life.
We do not fast to purchase our forgiveness and freedom. Jesus did that work for us on the cross. Jesus’ blood paid the price that we can never repay.
We are not fasting to be righteous before God. We are fasting to become more sensitive to the Holy Spirit as He directs us to avoid the things in our world that would want to suck us back into the slavery of sin.
Fasting is a time of giving up something we love to increase our sensitivity to God’s purpose and plan for our life. This new level of sensitivity will allow us to make better choices that will free us to fulfill God’s purpose and plan for our life.
Today let’s focus our fasting and prayer time on freedom. Let’s pray not only for our freedom but for those around us who have not yet experienced God’s freedom. Perhaps you have a family member, friend, or co-worker who needs freedom in their lives. Call out their name before the Lord and allow the Holy Spirit to show you want you could do to assist them into discovering God’s freedom.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit today I life up before Your altar ____________________. I ask that You put a spirit of conviction in their lives and give them a desire to know freedom. Show me what my role should be in Your work in their lives. Thanks for the freedom You have given to me.
