MY TOP PRIORITY

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.

Matthew 6:31-32 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Have you ever wondered if God cares when we hurt? It is hard to be human and not have those moments when you wonder that if God is a loving Heavenly Father why doesn’t He do something about my problem. Why doesn’t God take care of so-and-so and teach them a lesson for the way they treated me? Why doesn’t God help me win the lottery? Why doesn’t God heal my body?

In the gospels the disciples were in a storm on a lake and Jesus was asleep in the boat with them. They were in panic mode and Jesus was sleeping. In frustration the disciples came to wake Jesus with the words, “Master, don’t you care that we drown?” (Mark 4:38)

Human nature will often question the timing and fairness of God. In the Old Testament David questioned why God allowed the wicked to prosper while he was suffering.

Jesus addressed these questions in our text today from Matthew 6. Jesus told us not to worry about what we need to eat, drink, or wear because our Heavenly Father knows what we need. Jesus is reminding us that God knows what we need. In fact, the truth is God knows what we need better than we do. We think we know what we need, but our understanding is very limited.

There were times when my sons thought they really needed something but in my wisdom as a parent I knew what they wanted was not what was best for them. My duty was not to give them everything they thought they needed but to teach them trust and patience. Teaching them to be able to look further than the immediate was tough. Our human nature is designed to focus on the immediate rather than the eternal.

In the very next verse in Matthew 6 Jesus tells us, “See first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

So, when I seek God’s kingdom and will for my life then I will get everything I need. I will have food to eat, something to drink, and clothes to wear. I believe Jesus was saying all my basic needs of life will be met. So I shouldn’t worry or be afraid. My Father cares and will take care of me.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit help my top priority to seek the God’s kingdom and God’s will. Help me to trust You about what I need in my life.

I was Literally worried about a plethora of things and came to read the fresh bread today . This is very reassuring and I’ll stop worrying about things that are so mundane to God.
