GOD WILL COVER US WITH HIS FAITHFULNESS

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
Psalms 91:4 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Today we focus on the later part of verse four, “His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”
It is the faithfulness of God, not my faithfulness, that is my armor and protection. God is faithful even when I am not. Paul told Timothy, “If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is.” (2 Timothy 2:13 NLT).
Think a moment of the armor that Paul talks about in Ephesians 6–the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the belt of truth, feet fitted with the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of truth. All our armor are gifts from God.
We don’t earn the helmet of salvation—it is a gift because of the grace of God. We are saved by grace and not by works (Eph. 2:8-9).
The breastplate of righteousness is not based on our righteousness but on the righteousness of Jesus. God caused Him to be made sin so that we could be made righteous (2 Cor. 5:21).
Every piece of armor that protects us is a gift from God. We must know the Word of God to build our faith in the faithfulness of God.
When I feel inferior, unworthy, or shame I need to know the Word that tells me if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
My confidence should never rest in my perfection, intelligence, skill, personality, or experience. My confidence is in the faithfulness of God.
I can’t take God’s faithfulness for granted. In the Old Testament the children of Israel became spiritually complacent during times of blessings because God was faithful to His covenant to bless the offspring of Abraham. But when the children of Israel continued to be unfaithful to their part of the covenant God removed His protection over them and they suffered the consequences of their laziness and rebellion.
I believe there is a difference between a failure and a pattern of rebellion. When we develop patterns of unfaithfulness to God we will experience the consequences of those choices. But even then, the faithfulness of God wants to draw us back to His mercy and grace.
We should make a daily decision to stay under His wings and in His shelter so that we can enjoy the armor and protection of His promises.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, I ask You to show me any areas of my life where I have become complacent or lazy in my commitment to You. Help me to stay faithful to Your Word. Help me to know Your Word so that I can live in the confidence of Your faithfulness.
