I WILL NOT BE AFRAID

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,….
Psalms 91:5a NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
David opens a section of the psalm listing the things we don’t have to concern ourselves with because we have chosen to live in the shelter of the Most High. He starts the list by telling us not to be afraid “of the terrors of the night.”
I am one of those people who have no problem falling asleep at night. My wife makes fun of my ability to be asleep within seconds of getting still. But I also have had struggles of waking up at 3:30 or 4:00 in the morning with my mind suddenly working on some problem.
Over the years I have tried to practice using that mental energy to do my morning devotions. I turn to the Word of God to quiet those “terrors of the night.” There are times I will simply begin to quote the Word of God to myself to calm my mind and receive God’s peace.
One thing I have learned is the power of my own tongue. God has chosen in His creation to release life through the spoken word. Genesis tells us everything came into existence by the spoken word of God. God said, “Let there be ….” When God spoke, something was created out of nothing.
In the New Testament we learn that our salvation comes about when we believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths (Romans 10:9-10). There is something powerful when we speak with our mouth and believe in our hearts.
I have discovered when I speak God’s Word with my mouth—even when I don’t fully believe it—faith is released to believe what I say.
When it comes to fear I like to quote 2 Timothy 1:7, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and a sound mind.” I declare with my mouth God has not given me a spirit of fear, but I have power, love, and a sound mind.
When the enemy tries to come with terror in the night choose to step into the shelter of the Almighty by declaring His Word over your life.
TODAY’S PRAYER
In the name of Jesus, I declare I will not be afraid of the terrors of the night. I will not accept any spirit of fear because I have been given power, love, and a sound mind.
