THE HONOR THAT IS COMING
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them.
Psalms 91:15 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
The fifth promise that God declares for them that love Him and call on Him is honor. God says, “I will rescue and honor them.”
The word we translate honor is from the Hebrew word kabad. In a positive sense it carries the idea of numerous, rich, honorable. It can include thoughts like glorify, promote, and be rich.
God declares it is His desire to honor those who love Him and decide to abide under the shelter of the Almighty. He wants to enrich our lives, promote us, and bring honor to us.
That does not mean God’s honor comes without some trials and troubles. A classic example is from the Old Testament story of Joseph. We read in Genesis 36 about God giving Joseph a dream about his family all bowing down and honoring Joseph. But between the giving of that dream and the fulfillment of that dream Joseph went through years of rejection, slavery, being lied about, imprisoned, and forgotten.
The honor God wants to give to us often will entail times of struggle to perfect in us the qualities that we will need when God elevates us. Being honored with a foundation to support the honor will destroy us. God must deal with pride, arrogance, selfishness, and other issues in our hearts so that His promotion does not destroy us, hinder the work of the kingdom, and hurt others.
We can be assured that when we choose to love God and abide in His shelter honor will come. Even if life is difficult now, we can view this as a training time to develop in us the qualities we will need to handle the honor that is coming.
God wants to bring glory, riches, promotion, and honor to our lives. Let’s be ready to receive.
TODAY’S PRAYER
In Jesus name I declare that I will be honored by God because I choose to love God and abide in His shelter. I will keep my life in alignment with God and therefore honor His coming into my life.
