THE PROMISE OF SALVATION

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.

Psalms 91:16 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Today we wrap up Psalm 91 with God’s final promise to those who love Him and chose to abide under His shelter. God says He will “give them my salvation.”

When I grew up in church I thought of salvation as my ticket to heaven. It was the “Get Out of Hell” card. Because I had confessed my sins and invited Jesus to be my Lord and Savior I had the golden pass to heaven.

However, salvation in scripture means a whole lot more. According to Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, the Word translated "salvation" includes health, healing, deliverance, rescue, safety, protection, and provision.

Salvation is not just about the “pie in the sky where we go when we die if we don’t fry.” Salvation from the Lord Jesus is about a transformation that occurs in our lives right now.

In John 10:10 Jesus said He came to give us “life.” That word is the same word use for the life or nature of God. Jesus came to earth not just to give us a ticket to heaven, He came to bring heaven down to earth. To allow us to live on this earth the life of God.

Jesus’ desire for us as His followers is that we would see God’s kingdom come and will be done in our lives daily. We would live daily the life of God on earth.

I believe we can live free from the control and consequences of sin. We can live with the fruit of the Spirit daily displayed in our lives—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control.

This is what it means to experience the salvation God gives us each day. Let’s claim that promise of salvation and live it out.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus I claim Your promise of salvation as my gift today. I choose to love You and abide under the shelter of Your wings. I choose to trust my life to You therefore I claim all the promises of Psalm 91 as mine today.
