THANK THOSE WHO HAVE TAUGHT US THE WORD OF GOD
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives and follow the example of their faith.
Hebrews 13:7 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
When we think about how to discern the will and direction of God for our lives, this passage gives us some very valuable insight. We are challenged to think about those people who have taught the Word of God and follow their example. You will notice the author includes, “think of all the good that has come from their lives.”
I believe my first stop in wanting to discern the will and direction of God is from the written Word of God, the second step is from the Spirit of God as He speaks to my inner man. But the third step from the family of God.
As followers of Christ we need living, breathing role models. Some of them may have preceded us on earth but their stories of faith and faithfulness can inspire and give us direction. Others may be the people we meet with in our small group who are simply living out the truths of God’s Word daily as best as they can.
There is wisdom in the multitude of counsellors. We should all have people that are our spiritual heroes. People that disciplined their lives to make good choices and thereby produced fruit in the lives of others.
I have certain authors that have mentored me through their books. I have pastors that have inspired me as I listen to their sermons. I have leaders that motivate me to grow. I have friends who help me see things from a different perspective. I am blessed to invite into my life input from a wide variety of individuals.
We need people who think different from us to challenge us to think with clarity and dig deep on complicated issues. Don’t settle for easy answers.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit I want to grow more like Jesus every day. Help me to see the people in my world from whom I can learn and grow. Help me to constantly be growing in my faith.
