CHOOSE TO OBEY GOD
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
So God was good to the midwives, and the Israelites continued to multiply, growing more and more powerful. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.
Exodus 1:20-21 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Pharaoh gets so afraid of the Israelites that he orders the midwives to kill any Israelite boy that is born. The midwives refuse to do what he says because they fear God. When Pharaoh confronts them about why they aren’t killing the boys they lie and say the Israelite women are just giving birth too fast for them to get there., God sees their compassion and acts of kindness and rewards the midwives with families of their own. There are times when we are asked to do things that are wrong and we have to choose to obey God rather than man! When I look at our nation today I am afraid the day may not be far off when the government attempts to tell pastors what they can and can’t preach. There are some places now where pastors are not allowed to use radio or TV to say that homosexuality is a sin. That is considered hate speech and punishable as a crime. Throughout Bible history there were those who stood for truth when it would have been more convenient to go along with everyone else. The first that comes to mind is the three Hebrew men found in Daniel, chapter three. Everyone was told to bow down and worship the golden image, but they refused to bow. They were willing to be thrown into a fire instead of bow to a golden idol. They were committed to worshipping only the Lord God Almighty. In the New Testament the early apostles were threatened with imprisonment and beating if they continued to preach that Jesus was raised from the dead. But they chose to obey the orders of God rather than the commands of men. (Acts 4). We must be careful about this path. Paul reminds us that government authorities are put in place by God and should be honored (1 Cor 12). But there are times when we must choose between some laws and the law of God. This is a careful step that must be taken with wisdom and courage with hearts that are right before God.
