NOT AN EXCUSE FOR SIN

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Even perfection has its limits, but your commands have no limit.

Psalms 119:96 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

The expectation of perfection is a false expectation. If we are on this side of eternity, we will have struggles and failures. But that should not be an excuse for intentional sin.

David said in Psalm 32:3, “When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away….” Unconfessed sin will destroy us mentally, emotionally, and physically. We can’t hide or make excuses for sin in our lives.

At the same time, we must live with an understanding of our fallen humanity. We are made from dirt, and we have a corrupted sin nature that fights us daily. It is crucial that we understand we are weak, but God is strong.

We cannot live a victorious life as a follower of Jesus in our own strength, self-discipline, and will power. We must turn to the Word of God and the Spirit of God. God’s Word gives us direction and conviction. The Word has the ability to penetrate to the depths of our being and point out weaknesses and errors.

Spending time in prayer with the Holy Spirit allows us to be tuned to the voice of God. The Holy Spirit takes the Word of God and helps us to apply that Word to our daily lives. He is our Teacher and Guide. He will lead us into victory.

God’s Word and God’s Spirit are two crucial parts of our war against the flesh and the devil. The third element is the Family of God. We need other believers to carry us when we are weak. Other believers who love us and are willing to hold us accountable for our future. Life is too tough to do alone.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit show me areas of my life that I must change. Help me today to spend time in Your Word and with Your family.
