SHIINE LIKE A BRIGHT LIGHT
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless.
Philippians 2:14-16 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are some powerful thoughts in our passage today. Let’s start with “Do everything without complaining and arguing.” We really need this today.
We live in a world where people love to argue more than have an honest conversation. I have lived long enough to know there is a lot I don’t know. The more people I can have an honest conversation with the more I learn. I don’t learn when I am talking but when I am listening. Few people are interested in listening. They want to make their point and convince everyone of how smart they are.
Paul goes on to tell us our goal should be to shine like bright lights in a “world full of crooked and perverse people.” The word picture is of a person holding a torch to light the path on a dark night. The torchbearer is not only lighting the path for themselves but for others around them.
When we choose to live holy lives without compromise, we become God’s torchbearers. We are here to show those living in darkness the way out.
Every time we compromise, we lose some of our influence. Why would someone follow us if we aren’t any different than them?
When our attitude is aggressive and argumentative we lose our impact on our world. No one has ever chosen to follow Christ because they lost an argument. People are drawn to the love of God not our ability to argue our point of view.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit help me to be a clear light for Your truth. Help me to live a pure life without question. Help me to demonstrate genuine love to my world.
