A TIME FOR REFRESHMENT
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
The apostles returned to Jesus from their ministry tour and told him all they had done and taught. Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat.

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The disciples had been sent out to do ministry. They were excited at the results, but Jesus knew they needed time to be refreshed. Even when we are doing good things, we get drained physically and emotionally. We need to learn how to refresh our spirit, soul, and body. Let’s consider three suggestions on how to refresh our spirit, soul, and body.
First, SOLITUDE. Our passage today illustrates that Jesus recognized they need to get away from the crowds of people. In one translation Jesus invites the disciples to “come apart.” I like what one man said, “You either learn to come apart or you will come apart.”
Second, RECREATION. It is important to have times of physical recreation. I like to play golf and go to the gym. This time of recreation is crucial for my body, soul, and spirit. For those who think following Jesus should be all work and no play you need to read Matthew 11:19, “The Son of Man, on the other hand, feasts, and drinks, and you say, ‘He’s a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and other sinners!’ But wisdom is shown to be right by its results.””
Jesus was accused of being someone who liked to have a good time. When did people accuse you of having a good time?
Third, LAUGHTER. I believe it is crucial to learn how to laugh and enjoy life. In Proverbs 17:22 we learn, “Being cheerful keeps you healthy.” We should all learn to laugh more.
Of these three which is the hardest for you? What can you do to find time for each of these this next week?
