GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.
Romans 3:23-24 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Here is the bad news and the good news. Bad news: we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s plan for our lives. Our sins have separated us from God. That’s the bad news.
Good news: By God’s grace we have been made right with God. We are not right because we started acting better. We are right because Jesus took our sin on the cross and made His righteousness available for us.
We must confess that we are sinners, we can’t save ourselves, and then we confess that Jesus is Lord. He is the Son of God, the Savior of the world. This confession made by faith releases the righteousness of God into our lives.
I disagree with those who say we must constantly acknowledge that we are sinners. There is nothing to be gained by declaring I am an alcoholic. I am a drug addict. I am a liar. Once I confess that and repent before God, I can declare I was an alcoholic but by God’s grace I have been declared righteous.
Until I realize I am forgiven and free from the consequences and control of sin I will keep repeating my sin. If I see myself as a failure I will always fail. If I see myself as righteous, I will live righteous.
TODAY’S PRAYER
In the name of Jesus, I declare I am righteous before God. I am free from the control and consequences of sin. I am living in victory in every area of my life.
