HOLY SPIRIT ALL DAY/EVERY DAY

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us. Furthermore, we have seen with our own eyes and now testify that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. All who declare that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God.

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Pause a moment and think about how crazy it must have seemed to those in Jesus’ day when His followers claimed that this man they knew as a carpenter and teacher was the Son of God. As the Son of God Jesus came to earth to be the Savior of the word. Two thousand years later I think it is easier to imagine this concept. But I would be hard pressed to think of someone I know personally as being the Son of God and Savior of the world. Think of one of your friends and imagine your response if they claimed to be God’s Son sent to earth to save the world. Knowing the person would make it tough to see them in a different light. The transformation for the disciples was Jesus’ death and resurrection. It was not that they had seen many miracles and heard great teaching—but it was the resurrection from the dead that sealed the deal. Then the Holy Spirit comes and fills them with understanding of everything they had witnessed for three years. Jesus had promised the Holy Spirit to come and live in His followers and teach them and guide them into all truth (John 14 & 16). But that encounter of the baptism in the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 was about a lot more than tongues, it was about a fresh understanding of the plan of God. After the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, Peter could stand boldly in front of thousands of people and declare they killed the Son of God but God raised Him from the dead to prove that He is the Lord. Peter was able to take Old Testament prophecies and show their fulfillment in Jesus. The Spirit inside of Peter gave clear understanding of the plan of God. I believe the gift of the Holy Spirit is for a lot more than making us feel good or get emotional. The Spirit comes into our lives to reveal truth and show us how to live out this Christian life daily. Is the Spirit fully living in you? Are you receiving fresh revelation daily?
