“TRY ME” SAYS THE LORD
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!
Malachi 3:10 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
It’s doing the right things on a consistent basis that transforms our lives into the destiny God has for us.
One of the “right things” is tithing. Many people struggle with the concept of tithing because they didn’t grow up with the idea of giving away 10% of everything they make. To tithe means you give to God the first 10% of your income. This is an act of faith, obedience, and worship.
By faith we are believing that God can and will bless the 90% and make it go farther than the 100% without God’s blessing. In obedience we acknowledge this is what the Bible asks us to do, and we submit to the authority of God’s Word. In our worship we bring the tithe to declare God owns it all, He created all things, and He is the One Who has given us the ability to earn money. Tithing is an act of faith, obedience, and worship.
We don’t give to get—that is manipulation. But if I handle my money in faith, in obedience to God, and in a manner that worships God then I believe God will bring blessing into my life. He might give me wisdom that opens new doors of opportunity. He might move on someone else to help me in my time of need. He might open the door for a new job.
God works in a variety of ways. Cindy and I have seen it happen over and over. We have discovered when we are faithful and obedient with the resources God gives us, He blesses our lives.
This passage in Malachi is the only place in the Bible where God invites us to test Him. Go read the entire passage. God is angry because the people stopped tithing. He considered them robbers. He challenged them to tithe and test Him to see if He wouldn’t bless them.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit help me to always be faithful with the tithe of all my income. Help me to live a life of faith, obedience, and worship.
