PRAY FOR PROTECTION, HOLINESS, AND UNITY
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you.
John 17:9 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
In John, chapter 17, we have the longest recorded prayer of Jesus while He was on earth. The prayer is for His followers. He provides us with a good insight in how we should pray for each other as followers of Christ.
First, Jesus asks the Father to PROTECT THEM (vv. 11 & 15). Jesus doesn’t ask the Father to remove us from problems or struggles but to protect us and keep us safe in the struggles.
When we pray for our spiritual brothers and sisters we should be praying for their protection and safety. Physically, mentally, relationally, and spiritually that they would be kept safe from the attacks of the enemy.
Secondly, Jesus asks the Father to make His followers HOLY (v. 13). Jesus wants us to be made holy by the Word of God working in our lives. We should pray for our family and friends that they will be made holy by coming to understand the truth of God’s Word.
Thirdly, Jesus asks the Father for UNITY (v. 23). Jesus recognized that unity would be the mark of God’s work in our lives. We should be praying for unity in our families, communities, and churches.
I believe we are in a spiritual war for our families, communities, and churches. We need to be praying for protection, holiness, and unity. If these three elements are working in our lives, we will be a powerful force for God’s kingdom in our world.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit give us protection, holiness, and unity in our families, communities, and churches. Help me to pray daily for Your kingdom to come in my world.
