HOW FAR FROM THE CLIFF WILL YOU BUILD?

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

1 Corinthians 10:12-13 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

To think that you are too strong to fall into temptation is to set yourself up for failure. Given the right circumstances anyone can fall to temptation. And, if we give Satan a chance, he will be sure to try to get us into that circumstance.

If we recognize we are vulnerable, then we take precautions in those areas of our lives. I have certain personal rules for my conduct. I choose to guard myself so that I don’t fall into temptation.

Some people build a fence on the edge of the cliff, so they don’t fall over the cliff. I want to build the fence a long way from the cliff, so I don’t fall over the cliff.

We can never be perfect in building fences and rules in our lives. Our best laid plans have holes. This is why we must not depend on self but on the Spirit. The Holy Spirit within us is our strength. He is our Helper. He gives us self-control. But we must lean into Him.

It is not self-control but Spirit-control that keeps us out of sin. When we choose to live by the Spirit, we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, I want You in control of my life. I am weak, you yet You are strong. Empower me to live in freedom from the weakness of my flesh.

I am very dependent on the grace of God, the Word of God, and the Spirit of God in my life to keep me on the right path.
