ALL DAY/EVERY DAY
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.”
John 4:10 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
This passage is part of a conversation Jesus is having with a Samaritan woman at a well in the middle of the day. The disciples have left Jesus alone by the well while they go to get food in the village. The conclusion of the story is a community wide revival sparked by Jesus’ conversation with a Samaritan woman.
When you read the full story in John chapter 4 you realize the woman had no idea who Jesus was. To her he was just a Jewish guy who had the audacity to speak to her. For a Jewish man to initiate a conversation with a Samaritan woman was not proper.
What if the woman had ignored Jesus? We would have missed one of the most amazing stories of the New Testament.
It makes me wonder how many times we miss Jesus in our day to day lives. We get busy, tired, and ready to veg out on the couch. We don’t realize that momentary conversation in the store or parking lot has the potential to change lives because Jesus is a part of that moment.
As followers of Christ, we understand that Jesus is with us all day, every day. We need to daily ask the Holy Spirit to help us see Jesus in every person we meet.
I sometimes whisper a prayer under my breathe when I suddenly have my day interrupted by another person. I ask for my patience because usually I have a “to do” list that is running in my head. My natural tendency would be to cut the conversation as short as possible to get on to my list.
Then I pray for God to help me see this person as God sees them. It is crucial to see every person—even the ones who interrupt your schedule—as important and valuable.
Seeing people the way God sees them help us realize those “God-moments.” Moments when Jesus is wanting to show up through us for someone else.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit help me to value people as the most important part of my day. Help me to see each person the way You see them. Help me to have patience to speak a kind word and help where needed.
